Pendolino Bratislava - Prague

The Czech Railways' Pendolino fast-train, which appeared briefly in the new James Bond film, began regular service from Prague to Bratislava from December 10, 2006.

Operating under the EuroCity Slovenska strela (Slovak Bullet) label, the train covers the 400 km distance in 3 hours and 49 minutes (a 22-minute reduction on previous fast trains between the two capitals. Pendolino train "Slovenska strela" SC 135 leaves the train station Prague Holesovice at 6:26 pm and arrives at Bratislava Main Train Station at 10:13 pm (the train stops at Pardubice, Brno, Breclav and Kuty border crossing). The tariff corresponds to the standard for EuroCity trains but with many additional services on board and greater passenger comfort.

The Czech Railways purchased the fast Italian-made Pendolino and experienced delays and cost overruns in putting the trains in operation. The "tilting train" technology allows the Pendolino to travel faster in sharp curves than ordinary trains.

After launching on several Czech routes as SuperCity trains in late 2005, Pendolinos are to begin serving Vienna and Bratislava in December 2006. The Pendolino's maximum speed is 230 km per hour but the train travels at 160 km at present. The train is non-smoking and offers a variety of modern services.

In 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale the Pendolino is set en route to Montenegro. The filming took place at Prague's Main Train Station on April 22, 2006.
