Bratislava Christmas Markets take place annually from late November to December in three central squares - Hviezdoslavovo Square, Main Square and Frantiskanske Square.
The squares fill up with wooden booths with vendors offering traditional Slovak Christmas decorations and gifts and a variety of traditional food and drinks. Locals come for lunch and to meet up with friends in the evenings so the small market really fills up.
The city Christmas tree is located in the Main Square and the Old Town Christmas Tree and wooden nativity scene in Hviezdoslavovo Square.
Traditional Christmas dishes include the potato crepes "Lokse" with sweet (jam, poppy seeds) or savoury (lard, chicken liver, cabbage) fillings, grilled pork or chicken "Ciganska Pecienka" in a bun, bread with lard and onion. There are two main traditional drinks: mulled wine with spices (both white and red), Christmas Punch with fruit and Slovak honey wine Medovina (similar to mead).
The markets are open daily from 10 am to 10 pm.
