Walking around Bratislava at night
Bratislava is generally a safe city to walk in at any time of day. That being said it is still a major city and staying in well lit, populated areas and trusting your instincts will help you to avoid any uncomfortable situation. Around the Old Town, you can walk up and down the Korzo, a traditional area for Bratislavians' Sunday walks.
The promenade is also great for a stroll as it is by the river Danube and stretches from the Passenger Ship Port to the site of a development called River Park.
Obchodna street is also a good option for a walk but with a much differnet feel. Being one of the former main shopping streets in Bratislava it is filled with students, teenagers, and other locals that frequent the many pubs and cafés and is a great place to do some people watching.
A great place for couples is the Sad Janka Krala, a public garden on the south bank of the Danube river between the New Bridge and the Old Bridge.

Can anyone comment on life outside Bratislava - namely scenic trips/tours, walking, hills, photo opportunities etc.

Going to visit Bratslavia for the first time this weekend and have a couple extra days. Where else should I go visit in the area? Is there anyway to find some locals that speak English? Anybody around this weekend?

Hi Everybody... I am a techno Dj from Belgium, ... and let's say, I'm invited by a Slowakia man to work over in Slowakia. My question... is there an electronic music scene in Bratislava? I don't mean a 5 year old Tiesto-track in the local bar... I mean, is there the REAL underground scene... I lived 3 years in Helsinki, and about 2 years in Spain...
Any advice is welcome, because I am coming over , for an unknown period... Thanks

Bratislava now is city of Europe, 15 years ago it was so different. Now life is similar at most important cities, like Roma, Milano. It is very near at Wien, so you can have holiday, and two places to visit, in same moment. Bratislava is sure city, only pay attention at cigans, and at some taxi driver in the night, who wants too much money. Don't drink driving the car, police controls strangers' cars, more in the night. It is very beautiful place, to stay one week, you can go up the hills, to walk, and in big commercial centers to look at shops...

been here now since end jan, not as much as a party city as i thought, finding live music is difficult, pubs are ok but cater more for eaters and coffee drinkers, rather than hard core beer animal like me lol!! , but dont be put off its a great place, if your a little older try the harley davidson club about 10mins from old town in taxi , pay about 10-15 euro, any more your being ripped off!!

Hi:) I´ve been living in Bratislava for almost 2 years now, and I haven´t connected with the city still. I believe it´s because of my self but also the city dosen´t feel inspiring. But I do belive the city has potential, and it has some nice areas, like old city, the park next to aupark (shopping mall) and a little bit outside the city in the nature area. I wouldn´t call Bratislava a party city. But I do think it has a lot of small nice pubs to enyoy, which can be better. It´s more like a soft party place. I wouldn´t recomend to stay too long. A weekend is okey for Bratislava. About the english speaking part. There is really few people I met that speaks english, but at times you can get lucky. And yes, the girls are pretty. I wouldn´t recommend you to come during winter or fall, it´s not so nice here then. Spring is nice, it´s like the city comes to life then. If you decide to come here. Have a relaxed attitude and I think you can have a really nice time:)

My son is from ARUBA (Dutch Caribbean),he lives and works in Bratislava,Slovakia.
He just loves it and has a girlfriend from there. Nice place to visit, nice people and good food. To compare with other places, still cheap to go out for dinner.

hey guys, dont worry, young people speak foreigner languages (and old people russian thanks to comunismus). you can go partying even during the week days (there are many student parties mainly at the part of the city the Mlynska dolina, where all the students live in dorms). but if you wanna have a real party life, go to prague, the city has 2 milion inhabitants and milions of tourists.
bratislava is a beautiful cute city, enough to spend one weekend. make sure you go to Devin. and if you have more time, go to see tatra mountains or other nice cities ;)

Ok guys this is a warning:
Brats life is not as good as it is said to be.
Despite the fact that the city is too beautiful and has really pretty girls you all have to know that the majority of people here (even young people) do not speak english, do not go out, do not make parties, are not that friendly (or maybe they are afraid of foreigners??? ). Be careful with taxi drivers cause sometimes they ll try to make a fortune out of you! If you are to spend one or two days then ok, you can visit brat friday-saturday. The rest of the days, simply stay away cause no nightlife exist!

Dopler is a good club which plays dance music!! Circus barok and charlies give a wide berth too as very intimidating and a strong possibility you will get robbed and beaten.....sorry to sound depressing but we seen it for ourselves!!
Nice little ciban bar facing mimi's bar which serves the best pizza in town!! Slovak pub is studenty and there is a cocktail bar close to slovak pub that is pretty cool!! Learn some slovakian as it will help and have your wits about you at night, also watch the gypsy kids that will try to pickpocket you, which sadly the police do nothing about :(
Hope this helps

Ahoj (Hello) - I am returning to BA on 05/11/2007 to take up a full time position as an English Teacher. After taking time out to visit friends and relatives in the U.K.I've read many comments on BA both good and bad, but quite honestly the comments reflect the mentality of some of the authors. I have only good comments about Bratislava - its FABULOUS. Please feel free to email me with any questions or comments.
