Slovaks remember 15 years since end of communism

Bratislava -- Citizens and institutions prepared to commemorate the Velvet Revolution on November 17, 2004, fifteen years after the former Communist regime beat up students peacefully marching in Prague, the then capital of Czechoslovakia.

The revolution brought an end to single-party Communist rule, introduced free elections and unleashed the forces of free enterprise for better and for worse.

The following events are taking place in and around the city:

November 17, 2004 "Memories of the Absurd" Event
Venue: Rybne Namestie (near the Danube hotel)
Organiser: Civic Democratic Youth (ODM)
Info: Starts at 3 p.m. - satirical commemoration of past institutions and life in the Communist era
