SkyEurope Flights to Bratislava cancelled - airline out of cash
SkyEurope suspended operations on September 1, 2009.
Skyeurope was a low cost airline that had been in operation since February of 2002. SkyEurope connected Bratislava to several destinations throughout Europe. The airline operated a number of Boeing 737 aircraft. In addition to Bratislava SkyEurope had two other main hubs - Vienna and Prague.
SkyEurope has suffered financial setbacks in the last few years of operation. In January 2009 a leasing company took away most of Skyeurope's fleet of Beoing 737-300 aircraft, leaving the airline with rented and second-hand units. Skyeurope had arrears in paying staff wages and problems meeting payments to numerous other partners. There have been flights cancellations and many Slovak passengers have experienced delays in receiving refunds from the airline.
