Raca

Wine festival in Raca

The district Raca is a part of Bratislava, formerly an independent village located in the west at the foot of the Small Carpathian mountains.

In addition to being a popular residential district it is the setting for the annual vinobranie (young wine festival), where masses of people come together to drink the young wine from grapes picked in the nearby hills and to feast on traditional foods. The festival is held over a weekend each September and is truly a grand time.

In the Spring, it is home to Račianske Hody, a festival held in honor of the patron saint of the local church and in the summer, Račafest, an annual summer musical festival.

Rača is a district in the northern part of Bratislava. To get there, take trams 3 (which goes from the Main Train Station/Hlavna Stanica), 5 from Kapucinska, (just outside of the Historical Center), or 11 (from Kamenne Namestie/ Kamenne Square, in front of Tesco in the center). A taxi ride will be about 20 minutes from the center.

There are many historic landmarks and monuments in Rača, for example St. Phillip's and St. Jacob's Church, which dates back to the year 1390. The district is famous for numerous vineyards and a long tradition of wine making.
