Day of Modra Wine Cellars 2011
Modra, a city with a centuries old winemaking tradition will open its cellars to the public on Saturday, April 9, 2011 from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., featuring the wines of 18 local winemakers.
Tickets cost € 19, which will entitle you to 65 degustation tickets. Present one ticket to a wine producer and they´ll give you a 0.04 liter sample of wine, allowing the visitor to taste 65 wines over the course of the day. Visitors also receive a commemorative wine glass from the event and a map of the town complete with a list of wine producers to help navigate from cellar to cellar. Modra is also known for a special type of ceramic pottery made there. So, as an added bonus visitors will also get a logo of the event made of ceramic to remember their afternoon spent with the winemakers of Modra. Unused degustation tickets can be used to purchase bottles of wine from vendors.
To get to Modra, you need to take a bus from AS Mlynske Nivy, leaving approximately every hour. You can buy the tickets and start your tour in the wine cellar U Pradeda, right on the main square where you will get off the bus. The trip is approximately one hour, so we recommend Modra as a nice day-trip while staying in Bratislava.
Don´t worry about transportation once you are in Modra. Visitors will be able to walk to many of the cellars and not worry about taking public transportation or a car. If you do decide to use a car, remember that Slovakia strict zero tolerance policy against drinking and then operating a car.
