High Tatras National Park Seriously Damaged

On November 19, 2004 strong storm and hurricane hit Slovak National Park of High Tatras (Vysoke Tatry) destroying over 100 square kilometers of forests leaving flat land with fallen trees behind. Many roads were blocked and electric power supply was interrupted.

Most tourism facilities are back in full operation and open to visitors at the moment - please check with your hotel in the High Tatras if you have a trip planned.

Enviromentalists and government officials talk about large-scale catastrophy with impact on nature, forests and climate. Slovak government is preparing to deploy the reserve funds for the High Tatras National Park restoration purposes.

Slovak citizens, individuals, foundations and local governments in other European countries have offered assistance.

Locals from High Tatras (Vysoke Tatry) mourn, but invite the tourists to come and support Tatras directly by booking accommodation, skiing and using local services. You can see the list of available hotels in High Tatras, Slovakia.

For the photos of aftermath of the devastating storm visit Vysoke Tatry town aftermath gallery.

http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/ski/resortslist/LOXX0001?closestResortNum=10&skiType=D&queryType=locIDSearch

a zadal som si najblizsie lyziarske centru k Bratislave. Milan
