Gay Bratislava Nightlife
The New York Times named Bratislava among its Five Great Gay Destinations on September 25, 2005: "The scene may be small, but the boys in the Slovakian capital look like extras from a Bel Ami movie and are incredibly friendly." They recommended Apollon (see below) as the best club.
For clubbing, try the 4Pink's launched in 2006 at Zupne Square (Sun-Thu 4 pm to 2 am, weekends to 5 am), Gay Club Apollon on Panenska 24 (Mon-Thu 6 pm to 3 am, Wednesday to 5 am, Friday and Saturday 8 pm to 5 am, disco everyday except Monday from 10 pm, Sundays men only 8 pm to 1 am), Apollon Club Cafe at Vysoka 20. A gay sauna is located at Zivnostenska.
Other popular hangouts with a mixed crowd (both gays and straight people) include the cafés Antik near Hlavne namestie and Verne at Hviezdoslavovo namestie.

I was just in Bratislava for 3 nights. My advice, skip it. The drinks are cheap which is good if traveling long term or on a budget, but I didn't see many hot guys that "look like extras from a Bel Ami movie". I saw about two guys that were nice to look at that who didn't have greasy hair, I dont think those are great odds. As for Apollon, the only decent looking guy was the bartender and his girlfriend was there. That being said I had some great conversations with some locals while at Apollon, but they were not cute, mean but true. The bar itself is in a small basement and is very small. I was there on a Friday evening from 9pm - closing. Maybe it's better on Saturday. For all the sisters of Safra, you'll be in Heaven. The girls are beautiful and each is better looking than the other. To be fair, I only went to one bar, I guess you have nothing to lose if you go, just plan visiting Vienna, Budapest or Prague to make your trip worthwhile. As far as lodgings, I highly recommend crash hostel, its around tv corner from Apollon and its new with private rooms and ensuite bathrooms.

Was just on a trip though Eastern/Central Europe. And yes, even made it to Bratislava. I spent a day and a night here, and had a great time.
Go up to see the castle, it’s a good walk and offers great views. Walk across the big bridge..by the way, that large round tower is a restaurant and observation deck atop the bridge. I went up there and the views are great! And the restaurant is very high end. And uniquely, the restroom is one of the finest I've seen anywhere! You actually pee into buckets that are urinals (sounds tacky but is very chic) and you are facing out the window looking hundred of feet down. And the toilet is the same where you sit down and are looking out the window! Amazing!!
Was only there one night and stayed at a hostel Backpackers Hostel which was great, which just happened to be a couple of doors down from one of the more popular clubs there, the Apollon (see link)

Well maybe I lucked out, as it was a packed and hopping Saturday night. All of the folks there seemed like locals, and lots of cute hot guys. I was there the night of the birthday party, so if you look at the pics and see the cake and the singer there (yes, all in Slovak) they passed out cake to all the guests! It wasn't that good, but oh well---maybe it just didn't taste good with the beer.
And I did end up hooking up with a really cute blonde guy. He was a bit drunk, but knew where to take me...this little wooded area at the end of the street from where the bar was. What memories that will be. He didn't speak any English, but enough that I could ask his name and he told me Marcus (sounded like Markush though.) What a doll. Wish I had not stayed at the hostel and had a room I could have taken him back to.
Went from there to Prague for a couple of days, then back to Budapest. I've got to say I had a great time in Budapest! Those Hungarians are Great!!
Fun time! Go if you ever get the chance! Anyway Bratislava is great, and if you ever go to Vienna, it is an alternate airport to fly in and then just an hour bus trip into Vienna from there. Flew Ryan Air from London, but there is also Sky Europe and other low cost airlines that you won't find on Expedia or Orbitz.

Bratislava Old Town Centre is gay friendly but I can't tell you about other places. It's generally a safe city. I walk about alone at night and don't feel scared. There are gay clubs in some other cities but I don't know much about them. The clubs and cafes here are all mixed except for Thursday night in Apollon which is now men only. Girls seem to particularly like Angels (U Anjelov), Barbaros and 4Pink's (bad punctuation but it's a nice new place). Another gay club that hasn't been mentioned is Spider. Krater is now closed but is due to reopen soon as Big Barbaros and will be gay every night. The previous big Barbaros was xlnt but had to close. For electronic music go to SubClub, it has great DJs. Backbackers' Hostel in Panenska is gay friendly and close to everything. You could also try Hotel Kiyev (next to Tescos) or Hotel Zvarac (a short tram ride) if you want somewhere cheap. Sorry I know nothing about Pension Castle Club. I hope you all enjoy your time here.

Matt, Bratislava is generally more open than the rest of the country, nonetheless the nation considers itself catholic. It is generally safe to be gay or gay looking but be prepared for people Looking. I would also avoid being too "visible", especially when walking the city alone and/or at night (but I think this is normal in any city). Drop me an email if you want any further info.
