No Joke - Yerevan to Bratislava Flights to Start in Early 2011
By Allan Stevo
January 14, 2011, Bratislava (BratislavaGuide.com) - Armenian Airlines has announced that starting January 17, 2011 it will begin flights to Bratislava, from Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
If you grew up west of the Iron Curtain, you might not have known that Yerevan was the capital city of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. If you grew up east of the Iron Curtain, then you definitely knew.
In fact, there was a whole collection of jokes that were popular in Slovakia (and throughout the Easter Bloc) about Radio Yerevan´s propaganda belching news reports. The jokes follow the format ¨Radio Yerevan was asked...¨ and ¨Radio Yerevan answered...¨ We have put together a Radio Yerevan Joke Collection if you are interested.
At the time of writing, the cheapest roundtrip ticket from Bratislava to Yerevan and back was about € 373 including taxes. Flights will run Yerevan-Bratislava-Yerevan leaving Yerevan on Monday nights during colder months. When the airline is flying with its summer schedule, flights will leave on Friday nights and Monday nights.
If you are traveling to Armenia, take a look at Lonely Planet´s Guide to Armenia. If you would like a more in depth view of the country and culture, there seem to be some excellent English language books about Armenia
. You can even find a € 3 collection of Folk Tales from Armenia
.
