Bratislava Castle is one of the focal points of the city. High upon the hill, it is an excellent place to look out across the Danube into Petrzalka and into Austria. It houses a museum that hosts regular exhibitions and before its recent reconstruction also housed offices of the government.
The castle grounds have many acres of walls enclosing grassy and tree-studded plots of land. At night, and especially in the summer, it becomes a popular gathering place for young people in Bratislava. During warm weather a variety of festivals are held in those grassy spaces. The castle is a great place for a walk and some quiet time during the day or at night.
Trolleybus 203 and 207 will get you from the Presidential Palace to the castle (bus stop "Hrad," the Slovak word for castle) in under 5 minutes. A walk from the center takes about 10 minutes. The best way to walk it is up the old stairs that start just next to the New Bridge (Novy Most).
