13th International Francophone Film Festival Bratislava - April 13 - 17, 2011
By Jakub Hanzel -- April 12, 2011
This International festival is as always in the spring festival selection of Bratislava. It brings over sixty movies and short films from France, Belgium, Romania, Israel and Canada. The screenings in Mladost Cinema, Film Club 35mm and the Slovak National Gallery include movies that are not regularly played and cannot be seen ordinarily in Slovak cinemas.
The festival will be divided into six parts, and they introduce films from prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam or Clermont Ferrand. For example, the section "creme de la creme" offers the best movies from the current production from renowned producers such as Bertrand Tavernier, Benoit Delepine and others. Other sections are selected by movie genre or duration.
The atmosphere will be formed also by cultural events. On Thursday the 14th, in the Academy of Performing Arts (VSMU) a public discussion will take place. The attendees, most of them professionals from the movie industry, will be discussing topics concerning the future of Bratislava's traditional cinemas in the city-centre. On Friday the 15th, the traditional Film Night starting at 8 p.m. will be taking place at Hviezdoslav Square, and will continue in Mladost Cinema until dawn. On Saturday the 16th, a concert is scheduled for guests in the Dunaj Cultural Centre on SNP Square.
The 13th year of the International Francophone Film Festival in Bratislava returns to the Old Town of Bratislava to breathe in life to the cinemas in the historical heart of our capital city. So if you like to meet new interesting people, discuss topics which you always wanted, or if you would just like to watch a movie in French, then come to one of the venues, or find the programme online.
